How Social Media Changed The Way We Interact With The World

Social Media

I have written my final project on how social media has changed the way we interact with the world. I will focus on whether or not social media has helped or hurt how we interact with one another. I am interested in this topic since all we all voluntarily or involuntarily are somehow active in some form of social media. I Believe that social media has and will continue to allow us to make it even easier day by day to build relationships and make it even more simplier to stay connected with one another. Here is a sneak preview of my writing piece.

There is no getting around the fact that social media has changed the way we interact. Depending on who you ask this is a great thing or an absolute disaster, in reality the truth falls somewhere in the middle. There are certainly benefits to social media but there are also some valid concerns about the way that is has changed our interactions. These changes are likely to be more revealing to us in the coming years ahead. Although there are some benefits to society using social media, social media sites are ultimately having a negative affect on society because it is destroying the ability for individuals to think for themselves

The biggest change in the way that we interact due to social media is the number of people that we can interact with. In the past you were limited to a small number people that you knew in person. In today’s world, you can interact with people from all around the world(and people out of this world). This is why you see people who have thousands of Facebook friends. They would never have that many friends if they had to interact with them in person. This also gives you the chance to share opinions with a bigger pool of human beings.

Another big change that has occurred because of social media is that there is no privacy on your communication. In the ancient times, unless you spoke to people directly you had no way to get your message across. For example, if you wrote a letter to a your local newspaper, if they felt what you wrote is offensive or out of bounds, they wouldn’t prefer to bring up the topic. In today’s world, you can use social to get your message across instantly.

While there are definitely some benefits to the way that social media has changed the way we interact, there are also some negatives. One of the biggest downsides is that we are inclined by nature to form into groups of people who share the same opinion as us. One may find it easy to criticize you since you will not be fully exposed to the plethora of opinions we were once accustomed to.If somebody has an opinion that differs they are usually excluded from the group.

Another issue with the way that social media has changed the way that we interact is that we have lost a lot of our basic social skills. Many people find it hard to have a physical conversation with someone. Unlike in ancient times, people today are having their interactions online. This is a major concern because people in today’s society are forgetting how to have physical interaction.

Intro To I.T.

The I.T. Is one that is quite diverse. Whether you are of a different race or come from a unique upbringing, there are all types of people in this industry. From the hardcore coders to the to I.T. Marketer, the I.T. Industry is filled with an array of different types of workers. For example, even if you have a particular type of disability, you can still find yourself working in the I.T. Industry. The advantage to having this type of diversity is the fact that it give you creativity, and more room for newer innovation to arise. Although currently the I.T. Workplace is mainly male dominated, the trend has been changing as of late. Many of the top I.T. Companies today are pushing towards making the I.T. Industry a captivating place to work in for women.

Personally, as an individual with an IT Background, the workplace has constantly evolving. The systems are always being upgraded to latest software which means completing tasks are becoming less complicated. Although women are not the backbones of the I.T. Industry, that will soon change. This is true in my case as the Manager for the Helpdesk at my employment is a female. In today’s fast paced world, the number of women in the I.T. Will grow before our very eyes.

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality

VirtualReality

The idea of virtual reality is what it seems it is. The focal point of it is to replace your reality with a computer generated environment. Virtual Reality can be a variety of things, a game, some environment, or even a video when you that is playing when you are walking around. The main idea is to trick your brain into thinking that’s your new reality. The more up to date virtual reality environments today are displayed on computer monitor and or through headphone like style with an in-built display. The virtual environment can be almost quite identical to that of a real world in order to create a lifelike experience. For example, new truck drivers many not have had the prior experience to maneuver a 53-foot vehicle. A simulation of this can very much prove to beneficial without the hassle of damage an actual vehicle which can become a hefty cost if heavily damaged. Lately make technology headset have been invested in the creation of Virtual Reality headset. Creating a Virtual Reality Headset is not an easy task. There are many factors that come into play when into play when creating design and creating. For example, since the Virtual Reality headset right in front of your face, the Pixel Per Inch also known as PPI has to be correctly portioned. Augmented Reality, is in a way supplementing your reality through adding a few things and combining. This could something as seeing something on top of real world object. For example, through the use of your smartphone, you see the rate for a particular hotel room through augmented reality.

Personally, I feel that Virtual Reality and Augmented will not take off as one would like for it to take off since the content for it is not quite available yet. For example, 3DTV never succeeded due to this main reason. I believe that for it even have a chance in today emerging world, the content should be there for the end user.

Drones

Droness

Drones, have begun to be used everywhere. Whether it is for amateurishly, professionally, confidentially, drones are booming. With drones there are many controversies regarding safety concerns which have become a hot topic. For example, The FAA, Federal Aviation Administration, has predicted that there will be approximately 30,000 drones in the air by 2020. Personally, I feel this is a cause for concern since especially for the aviation sector. Globally, there has been many instances especially near airports where drones have nearly collided with jets. Many groups have spoken against this, campaigning for drones to be equipped with anti-collision software. In particular, the Air Line Pilot Association has tried to push for this technology to be implemented as soon as possible to prevent any kind of disaster. I feel this will be very beneficial, especially for frequent fliers who fly abroad on consistent basis. Something as easy as a small amateur drone getting caught in the jet engine can be quite detrimental. I feel that laws should be put in place immediately to restrict the usage of drones to prevent any kind of catastrophe from happening. Laws have been put in place in certain states, but their should law put in place to set the standard internationally as commercial jets fly across various borders.

3D Printing

3D Printing

3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing has been gaining popularity day by day. To keep it short a simple, 3D printing is basically a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. The digital file, also known as a CAD file or Computer Aided Design, can be downloaded at your home and can be used to print something in 3D. The general notion that everyone seems to have about that 3D printing is that it is not a do it yourself, but that is not the case. You do not need to be an engineer to create 3D models, it is something that average joe can easily pick up on with the available free software programs on the web. With the rise in popularity of 3D printing, there has also been some controversy regarding the usage of 3D printing. Quite recently, the world’s first gun made with 3D printer technology was fired in Dallas, Texas. It has a already has been something of concern since Defense Distributed, the group who created the 3D gun, intended to make the CAD file available on the web. This is very dangerous, as this gives open access to recreate the gun. As you would assume, many anti-gun campaigners are lobbying against stopping this from happening. With the case of any new technology, there is always potential for problems to arise. 3D Printers have already begun to present a problem and already being monitored by cybercrime agencies. With a 3D printer, there truly isn’t anything you cannot print. The possibilities are quite endless.

OUTSOURCING

Outsourcing of jobs has been going on for quite some now. Outsourcing has many pros when it relates to me. Personally for someone like me who is an Information Science major, outsourcing can benefit me in the aspect if I am looking for jobs outside of the U.S.  For example, if I was looking to apply for a job in India, companies would be more inclined to hire or offer a job to someone who has studied in the U.S. with some relative working experience as compared to someone in India who has little or no working experience. In relation to the United States, outsourcing hurts the country. With the introduction of outsourcing many people have lost their jobs since companies and large corporations can pay someone else much less in an another country to perform the same tasks that you do.  Companies can cut many costs and taxes they would have to abide by if it were in the United States.
